Area churches plan Easter services, egg hunts

 

A number of special worship services and activities are planned at area churches this year for Easter Sunday, April 16, and the days preceding it. The La Vernia News publishes this compilation of Easter services each year as a service to our readers. Services are on Easter if not otherwise noted.

Adkins

The Salem Sayers Baptist Church, 210-649-2153, will hold Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., followed by Easter Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.

The ROCK United Methodist Church, 210-573-4519, will have an Easter service at 11 a.m.

La Vernia

The La Vernia Ministerial Alliance, 830-253-8905, will sponsor “The Community Carries the Cross” on Good Friday, starting at 10 a.m. at the entrance of the La Vernia City Park. Ministers will pause at various stops for brief reflections, prayers, and singing. Those participating should take canned or nonperishable food items in plastic sacks for the La Vernia Food Pantry.

The Cowboy Fellowship of Wilson County, 830-769-3733, will offer a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. On Easter Sunday services will be at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and will include the Lord’s Supper.

The La Vernia United Methodist Church, 830-779-2621, will offer a Good Friday worship service at 6:30 p.m. A sunrise Easter service will be held at 7 a.m., followed by an Easter procession at 8:30 a.m. An Easter celebration service will be at 11 a.m.

Life Church of La Vernia, 830-947-3480, will have a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. On Easter, services will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The First Baptist Church of La Vernia, 830-253-1239, will have a prayer, praise, and preparation service at 6 p.m. on Saturday. On Easter Sunday, services will be at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. A children’s Easter celebration will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service.

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830-253-8121, will offer a Maundy Thursday Celebration of Holy Communion and a Good Friday Tenebrae service of increasing darkness, both at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, a sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. An Easter breakfast will be held from 8:15-9:30 a.m. in the parish hall. A Resurrection Service will be held at 10 a.m.

St. Ann Catholic Church, 830-779-3131, will have a Mass of the Last Supper on Thursday at 7 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a bilingual Mass at 7 p.m. in the church. Mass will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will be at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Grace Bible Church, 830-779-5200, will hold its Easter Sunday services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. in the La Vernia High School auditorium. A children’s program, “Jesus Changes Everything,” will be offered during both services to children ages 3 through fifth grade.

The La Vernia Christian Teaching Center, 830-779-6361, will have an Easter praise and worship service at 10 a.m.

Hope Assembly of God, 830-779-4673, will have an outdoor Easter service at 8:30 a.m. at the cross. A special Healing and Miracles service is planned for 9:50 a.m. for anyone who needs healing. Children’s programs will be available during the 9:50 a.m. service.

Seguin

Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek, 830-303-4669, will offer a Maundy Thursday and a Good Friday Tenebrae service of increasing darkness at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, sunrise worship will be held at 6:30 a.m. and a festival worship service at 9 a.m.

The First Presbyterian Church, 830-660-7877, will hold a Maundy Thursday worship service at 7 p.m. that will include a hand washing and communion and the drama, “Is It I?” On Good Friday, service will be at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. Easter Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m.

St. Hedwig

The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 210-667-1232, will have a 7 p.m. Mass on Thursday. On Friday, Stations of the Cross will be at 2:30 p.m. A Mass with liturgy will follow at 7 p.m. Saturday, there will be a blessing of Easter food at 2 p.m. and an Easter Vigil Mass at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Mass will be held at 7 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m.

Sutherland Springs

First Baptist Church, 830-947-3333, will offer breakfast at 9:15 a.m. Sunday school is set for 9:45 a.m. A worship service will begin at 11 a.m. and an evening service will be offered at 6 p.m.

River Oaks Church of Sutherland Springs, 830-928-7622, welcomes all to its “Son-rise” service on Sunday at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast in the fellowship hall at 9 a.m. A regular service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Easter egg hunts

Take the kids and their baskets and enjoy listening to the excitement in their voices as numerous local churches, businesses, and organizations offer Easter egg hunts on Easter Sunday, April 16. Events are on Easter if not otherwise noted.

La Vernia

The Cowboy Fellowship of Wilson County, 830-305-5453, invites all to its Community Easter egg hunt on Good Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The First Baptist Church of La Vernia, 830-253-1239, will hold a children’s Easter celebration during the 10:30 a.m. service, followed by an Easter egg hunt.

Immanuel Lutheran Church of La Vernia, 830-253-8121, will have an Easter egg hunt Sunday at 9:15 a.m. Participants are asked to take a basket.

Seguin
