God has no favorites

Why is it that some people believe that their own faith in God won’t work? They have faith in other people’s faith, but they do not have confidence in their own faith. For some reason, they do not believe in themselves. They do not believe in what Christ has done for them. They do not believe who and what they are in Christ Jesus.

This kind of thinking can defeat anyone. When we don’t know the truth of God’s Word, Satan can rob us of the blessings God intended for us. Scripture tells us in Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”

Every person born into the family of God has the same redemption and the same spiritual blessings. One person is not more saved or blessed than another. But somehow in people’s faulty thinking, they assume that another Christian has more than they do. They don’t realize the authority they already have.

The authority of a Christian is that of Christ Himself. For the Scripture says concerning that, “But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).

For Christians to exercise their own faith, and not rely on the faith of others, they need to exhibit the authority God has given them through Jesus Christ. In other words, they need to believe and trust in the power already granted to them as a child of God. This only comes by reading and meditating in God’s Word to know what He has promised to every believer and by receiving it as their own.

One powerful example of what we have in Christ is found in Mark chapter 16, verses 17-18, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” That’s the authority, the power that every believer has according to Jesus Himself!

Christians are not subject to circumstances; rather circumstances are subject to them. The Lord has given us authority over nations and over kingdoms, to uproot and pull down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant (Jeremiah 1:10).

He has given every believer the power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). If Christians could just grasp this and take it deep into their being, there would not be anything they could not accomplish through the power of Jesus Christ!
