Meet the La Vernia News Pet Parade winners

Meet the La Vernia News Pet Parade winners
Faith, a 3-year-old mixed-breed rescue, is the winner of the La Vernia News Pet Parade contest. She earned 140 votes, contributing $140 to the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter, the beneficiary of this year’s contest.

With a total of 40 entries, voters had a tough time choosing their favorites to vote for in the 2017 La Vernia News Pet Parade contest.

Each vote was a $1 donation to the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter, the beneficiary of this year’s event. The shelter received $760 from this event to help the shelter’s volunteers stop dogs and cats from running wild in Wilson County, and to find homes for these pets.

Winners were announced during the La Vernia News Pet Parade event in the city park April 22, following the Bluebonnet Fest Parade.

Despite the challenge, a clear winner emerged with 140 votes -- a 3-year-old mixed-breed rescue named Faith. She lives with Ralph Buller in San Antonio. Faith and her family win bragging rights as the first-place winner and a prize package that includes a two-night stay at Mrs. Goodiecookie’s Pet Resort, a free spray tan at Body & Sol Tanning Spa of La Vernia, a $20 laser wash at LV Bear Wash, and a Seguin Animal Hospital gift card. In addition, we’ll feature Faith’s story in a coming issue of the La Vernia News.

In second place was Sassafras, who lives with Dr. Chet Eastin and his wife, Carol, in La Vernia. This 1-year-old Petit Basset Griffon Vend-éen earned 70 votes and wins a prize package of shampoo, doggy perfume, collars, and leashes donated by Pruski’s Meat Market, along with a $25 gift card from the La Vernia Sonic Drive-In and a Seguin Animal Hospital gift card.

Our third-place winner is a pair of lovable, adoptable dogs seeking their “fur-ever” home -- Sam and Sara. Alena Gutierrez entered the duo in the Pet Parade; they garnered 37 votes. They receive a prize package of collars, leashes, shavings, and dog food donated by Tractor Supply Co. in Adkins, a $25 gift card from the La Vernia Sonic Drive-In, and a Seguin Animal Hospital gift card.

Congratulations to our winners!

Thanks to all the participants and everyone who voted. And thank you to the local community groups that joined the event in the park:
