Obamacare, Comey, Trump-isms, and college

“Well, affordability is the key. I have heard time and time again from Iowans how Obamacare has failed them.”

Between the Lines

That was U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst’s response to a question asked at a town hall meeting in her home state. Despite boos and boisterous behavior from a hostile crowd, she reportedly stood her ground and explained that people in her state were in a “world of hurt” when it comes to their health insurance.

Apparently the only ones who continue to support Obamacare besides the politicians are those who are getting an insurance subsidy paid for by us taxpayers.

“Is James Comey in trouble for ‘leaking’ his own notes?”

Between the Lines

The story said that, in Comey’s judgment, he wanted to get certain information out to the public. Without going any further, I would just say that it is precisely the former FBI director’s judgment that is in question.

He is the one who judged that Hillary’s intent was not to break the law, and he judged that President Trump’s intent might indeed be to break the law.

So Comey accuses the president of the United States of lying, and the president accuses Comey of lying. It is a case of “he said, he said.”

Which would you believe? Certainly, the president of the United States should have stature, but unfortunately, the incessant beleaguering by the media has made an impression on the public.

Either way, this is an FBI director who has completely lost his direction, if ever he had one.

“As a combat veteran, I’m disgusted that Obama let traitors, drug dealers and murderers out of prison early -- while 1LT Lorance is left to serve a 20-year sentence ... !”

Between the Lines

West is organizing a drive to ask President Trump to pardon 1st Lt. Clint Lorance since Obama refused to. In the course of his duty serving in Afghanistan, Lorance was convicted of murder for apparently defending his post. This could be another case of the foggy rules of engagement under President Obama.

“... Donald J. Trump, who is plain-spoken, sharp and exact, as if each word was a brick in the wall of a towering new building, or, rather, a steel beam in his new Tower.”

Between the Lines

This is an apt description of a man who does not parse words. There are no empty spaces when Trump tweets and no empty air to fill when he speaks. He does not waste our time with frills.

“... only 36 percent of jobs available -- 54.8 million -- required some college, ... .”

Between the Lines

Meanwhile, statistics from the Bureau of Labor show that approximately 61 percent, or 131.4 million young adults have at least some college.

Too many have been left with student loans to repay and no job. Meanwhile, high-paying positions for welders, electricians, machinists, and truck drivers go unfilled. Something is wrong with this picture.
