Deputies arrest teens for assault

Two La Vernia teens face charges of resisting arrest and assault of a public servant, among other charges, after a June 6 incident.

Deputies responded to Legacy Trace Drive in La Vernia, where they encountered Samuel Henry Mondragon, 17, and Grey Laurel Geisel, 17, both from La Vernia, exiting Mondragon’s dad’s vehicle. Deputies called the two over, but they fled the scene, according to Cpl. Jeffrey Dugi.

The deputy caught up with them on Rosewood Drive. Thinking he saw Mondragon holding something in his hand, Dugi drew his weapon, but reholstered it when he determined the young man wasn’t holding a weapon. Dugi attempted to arrest him, and Mondragon allegedly punched him.

The deputy wrestled him to the ground, and Mondragon attempted to take his gun, according to the report. Geisel then allegedly jumped on Dugi’s back. A retired San Antonio police officer, who witnessed the altercation, subdued Geisel until backup arrived. Geisel reportedly scratched one deputy and kicked another as she was being prepared for transport. Officers recovered less than 2 ounces of marijuana at the scene.

Mondragon was charged with:

•Assault of a public servant

•Taking a weapon from an officer

•Resisting arrest

•Evading arrest

•Possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana

•Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Geisel faces charges of:

•Three counts of assaulting a public servant

•Resisting arrest

•Evading arrest

•Interference with public duties

•Failure to ID as fugitive from justice

•Possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.

As of press time June 20, the two were still in custody on $45,600 and $74,000 bonds, respectively.
