LVISD prepares to welcome students for 2017-2018 year

Dear La Vernia Community,

The first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 23, is around the corner and the teachers, staff, and administrators of the La Vernia Independent School District are ready to welcome back our students with open arms. As we enter the 2017-18 school year, I would like to share with you some of the new and exciting programs that were approved by the Board of Trustees.

In the next couple of months, our buses will be outfitted with new cameras and two-way radio systems. Our trustees also approved two additional Chromebook carts for each campus. That’s 60 more Chromebooks per school, as we integrate the use of the Google Classroom applications. Additionally, each junior high classroom will now be equipped with an electronic interactive whiteboard and projector that will engage our students in 21st-century learning experiences.

If you have not done so already, please visit our new La Vernia ISD website. We hope that you find it to be more user friendly and informative. As you prepare for the first day of school, I welcome you to find a picture of your child’s teacher, the beginning of the year supply lists, and transportation route information.

We have so much to celebrate in our school district. Our academics are on the rise with AP, SAT, and ACT participation and performance scores increasing. Our University Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cup 4A standing improved from 45th place in 2016 to 13th place in 2017! That means that we are competing at a prominent level in academics, fine arts, and athletics. Our college-readiness metrics on STAAR met and exceeded the standard in 19 out of 23 indicators! As a system, we are ensuring that our students are college- and career-ready. We are so proud of our dedicated educators and their commitment to “know every student by name and need.”

Our theme this year is “We Are La Vernia.” I ask you to join us and celebrate the wonderful attributes of our community and school district as we continue to strive to make La Vernia ISD the premier school district for the students we serve.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in La Vernia ISD.
