DAN SHERRARD/ / Senior Lady Bear Cymbrey Kappmeyer sets up the ball for another La Vernia attack. The Lady Bears had their first district match of the season against Wimberley Sept. 26, and take on Gonzales Sept. 29 at home.

The La Vernia Lady Bear volleyball team had a decisive win against Canyon Lake Sept. 19, before falling to Incarnate Word in a close Sept. 22 match, to bring the Lady Bears’ overall record to 27-2.

La Vernia won its Canyon Lake (4A) match in three sets, 25-13, 25-14, and 25-17.

On offense, senior Chloe Patton led the Lady Bears with 18 kills, with sophomore Madison Heinsohn close behind with 10 kills. Senior Kady Sczech had 35 assists. Senior Christa Reyes contributed five aces, with senior Cymbrey Kappmeyer and junior Maddy Schroller getting two each.

On defense, Reyes led with 16 digs, while Patton had 12 and Kappmeyer had eight. Junior Alyssa Johnson had four blocks at the net with junior Addison Mulroney and senior Kennedy Adams getting three.

La Vernia had a close 3-2 loss to Incarnate Word (TAPPS 6A), 25-20, 18-25, 14-25, 25-22, and 15-11.

Patton again led with 18 kills, with Mulroney getting 16. Sczech helped out with 30 assists, and junior Taylor Skrzycki contributed 12. Reyes sent over four aces; Schroller, two; and Skrzycki and Heinsohn one each.

On defense, Reyes had 26 digs; Patton, 18; and Heinsohn, 15. Freshman Meghan Stiefer and Patton each had three blocks; Mulroney and Schroller, two; and Heinsohn, one.

The Lady Bears had their first district match of the season Sept. 26 against Wimberley at home, and will host Gonzales Sept. 29.
