Museum still closed after hurricane

The La Vernia Heritage Museum remains closed following Hurricane Harvey -- not because of damage, but due to preparations as the storm threatened.

“We had to move almost all exhibits to a safer area and now must re-assemble each exhibit before we can re-open the museum,” said La Vernia Historical Association President Elaine M. Stephens.

Volunteers are busy with other hurricane-recovery efforts, including their own personal losses, said the association president.

While historical association members are thankful that damage to the museum was minimal, their thoughts are with others suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and other natural disasters since.

“Our heartfelt prayers are with everyone who is facing difficulties following the hurricane,” Stephens said. “We appreciate our volunteers and supporters -- and your patience!”

The museum will re-open as soon as possible.
