Maintaining a thankful attitude

It is a well-known fact observed daily and expressed either silently with glaring intensity or downright out loud with full-blown undeniable articulation. This failure is produced by the smallest inconveniences as well as major catastrophes.

I think you and I are cautiously hopeful that things can change. But it’s going to take a conscious effort and steadfast determination with an openness to divine assistance. Sadly, some will fail even to try, but I thought I’d give everyone the opportunity. ......

Do you maintain a thankful attitude? ...Stay with me.

It has been many years since our happy single years. We actually prayed for the Lord to guide us. When we found each other, we were sure that we’d help each other grow in the Lord. We were thankful we met and married! Honestly, we are still thankful....

Here at La Grimm Ranchero, we’re always working to build up endurance to maintain this thankful attitude. Therefore, we’re both always testing the other’s limits, checking the sensitivity of each other’s proverbial buttons, or at least working toward finding that last nerve.

There have been times the missus has labored to help me locate my temper when I’d thought I’d lost it. But like the gift that keeps on giving, it has been relocated and secured time and time again. ...

Of course, we both work hard on each other. The other day, she remarked that she was losing her “ever-loving” mind and I assured her without hesitation that I was pretty sure she’d lost it long before that particular moment. ...

Back in our earlier years of marriage, I was quicker on my feet and able to duck and dive, but she figured out my moves and so I had to learn to take cover behind a countertop, chair, or sturdy couch.

You see, we really believe that a person should be thankful in all things. To build up our endurance, we not only pray that the other will learn patience, but also do our best to see if patience has gotten closer over the years.

This has produced for me imagery almost like World War I trench warfare, which gave birth to my musing from behind the couch, plotting new ways to help her be thankful.

I am thankful her aim is off. ...Thankful she loves me. Thankful that our marriage or home is not as I describe in my writings. Thankful we can laugh at ourselves. And thankful for the realization that humor is a gift from God.

Do you maintain a thankful attitude?
