The La Vernia News has a new look just in time for the new year. From the masthead to the typestyles and headlines, everything about The La Vernia News has a new look. The new seven-column pages allow us to include more news and information on a page. The new column size matches the size used by its sister newspaper, the Wilson County News.
This will make it easier for doing the pagination and switching ads back and forth. For instance, if an advertiser wants the same ad to run in both newspapers, the ad will not have to be redesigned. The same size will work in both newspapers.
This is really an exciting change; we are excited about the possibilities and hope the readers will enjoy the new look, too.
Among the new features that have been added over the last few months are several new columns. These include recipes with “Just a Pinch,” faith-inspired words with “On the Road to Forever” and “Keeping the Faith,” financial news with “The Economist” by M. Ray Perryman, and news from Austin in “State Capital Highlights.”
The La Vernia News has more photographs and more color. With last week’s issue, we introduced the monthly WOW (what or where) photo contest. This week, we have added a crossword puzzle (see page 8), which we hope to be a weekly feature.
Subscribers have been telling us that they are enjoying the changes. Tell us what you like best or what you still want to see added to your community newspaper. Send in your comments by e-mail or fax, or fill out the coupon on page 3. From comments submitted weekly, we will have a drawing for a free one-year subscription to The La Vernia News.
Along with the new look of the pages of The La Vernia News is the new office at 112 E. Chihuahua, which will be opening Monday, Jan. 10. Office hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
We will have more information about the office opening in next week’s issue, so “stay tuned!”
