The Lady Bears went undefeated at their Nov. 30-Dec. 2 Bluebonnet Invitational tournament in La Vernia.

“We are very excited with the success we had in the tournament,” said Head Coach Kyle Sivadon. “Teamwork and defense was very big, and we are starting to gel.”

Their run started with a 57-44 victory over Ingleside Nov. 30, followed by a decisive 81-41 defeat of new school Southwest Legacy out of San Antonio.

“[Junior] Maddy Schroller had a great tournament with several steals, including a double-double the first game of the tournament with 12 points and 12 steals,” Sivadon said.

The Lady Bears continued their run Dec. 1 against Comfort, 53-45, and a close 57-54 victory over Jourdanton.

On the final day of the tournament, La Vernia swept away Dilley, 69-31, and McCollum, 59-45, for a first-place finish.

Schroller led the Lady Bears with 75 points, with juniors Courtney Swize and Heaven Muenster contributing 70 and 61 points, respectively.

Swize was selected as tournament MVP, while Muenster and Afton Jackson made the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Bears also broke into the Texas Association of Basketball Coach’s rankings this week at No. 25, Sivadon said.

“A huge thanks to the LV Sports Booster Club, who sponsored the tournament, along with parents, school administrators, fans, and the community for making it a fantastic tournament,” he said.

La Vernia took on Seguin Dec. 5, and heads to the Bishop Invitational tournament Dec. 7-9.
