A visit from Ol’ Man Winter

A visit from Ol’ Man Winter
Frozen in time " Pascalle Bippert snapped the snow-covered city limits sign Friday morning.

In some places, they talk about the first snowfall of winter. Here, it’s the first snowfall in decades!

La Vernia and the surrounding area enjoyed a little taste of winter last week, as snow blanketed the region Thursday night, Dec. 7, after two days of cold and rain. Almost everyone capitalized on the chance to enjoy some winter fun -- however briefly. And La Vernia News readers generously shared their photos of the fun they had playing in the rare but real snow!

Unofficially, about 2 inches accumulated on average, causing La Vernia schools to delay classes Friday by two hours. Some businesses and government offices also opened late.

By lunchtime last Friday, the snowmen were melting and the snow angels had vanished.

But when folks ask us in the future, we can say we remember “The Blizzard of December 2017”!
