Lady Bears wrap up regular season with win against Alamo Heights

 

The La Vernia Lady Bears traveled to Beeville Dec. 28-29 for a tournament, breaking even with a series of close games, before wrapping up the regular season with a Dec. 30 victory over Alamo Heights.

The Lady Bears started the tournament with a close 48-47 loss to Orange Grove, after a rough first quarter. Junior Maddy Schroller led the offense with 17 points, while junior Heaven Muenster pulled down 13 rebounds, and senior Sarah Jarzombek had six steals.

Another slow start against George West turned out in La Vernia’s favor. The girls pulled off a 51-49 victory, with Muenster putting up a whopping 27 points, and grabbing 18 rebounds. Jarzombek had five steals.

The Lady Bears rallied again for a 35-33 victory over the San Diego Vaqueros, with Muenster again leading with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Jarzombek stole the ball five times. La Vernia finished the tournament with a 51-49 loss to Sinton.

The Lady Bears finished their season with a 68-50 win against Alamo Heights, to bring their record to 21-5. They open district play Jan. 5 against Veterans Memorial at home, and travel to Wimberley Jan. 9.
