God is love

God is love, and that is so evident from Genesis to Revelation. Romans 5:8 tells us “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

God’s love is no better displayed than on the cross because Jesus died for us while we were still sinners. The wrath of God we deserved was placed on Him Who didn’t deserve it so that we would receive His grace and not what we deserve. This kind of love is not a feeling or an emotion but it is active in His blood shed for us.

We read in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” These are things that we should be emulating, but are impossible in our own strength. The source of this kind of love comes from God; therefore these actions reflect the love of God.

1 John 4:7 tells us “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” This verse shows us the source of love -- the source of all love! It is God. God is not only love but love is from God. If someone says they are born again and that they know God but hate their brother or sister, then the Bible says he is a liar because it is impossible to know God and love God and hate your brother (1 John 4:20).

John pleads with us to love in deed and truth and not just words. Talk is cheap but action proves our love is genuine. “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth (1John 3:16-18).

God is love in ways that we cannot even describe. His love has no limit. He loves us and wants to save us, but we must repent and confess our sins and then believe in Him by trusting in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-13). If we do this, we will abide in the boundless love of God. As we abide in Him, His love will be reflected in all that we do.

“And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:16).
