Developing a winning attitude

Not only are we faced with difficult situations in our life. In addition to our problems, we are also living in perilous times that seem to get worse daily. Everyone is expected to bow down to or accept the world system and it is very easy to give in and follow the crowd but it is more important to have a winning attitude.

In Daniel chapter 3, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were expected to bow down to the king’s pagan gods but they refused. They were rooted and grounded in God and they were not going to bow down to the system just because everyone else was. They were not afraid, they had a winning attitude. Even though they were in a foreign land, they knew God was with them so they stood their ground and refused to give in to the pagan kings commands when they said in Daniel 3:17-18 “...Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou has set up.” What happened? God showed up and delivered them because God honored His word.

In l Samuel 17 we also read of David, the shepherd boy that was faced with the giant Goliath. When the whole army and his brothers were afraid of the giant, David had a winning attitude not in himself but in God. In 1 Samuel 17:37 David said: “...The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. What happened? God showed up and David slew the giant.

What obstacles or giants are you facing today? Is the world crumbling around you and are there situations threatening you that seem beyond your control? Do you have a winning attitude? Romans 8:31 says: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Verse 37 says: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Verse 38 goes on to say that nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is Christ Jesus. With Jesus on our side, we can overcome and He will show up in our time of need because He honors His Word.
