Lifechek Drug Store goes the extra mile

Lifechek Drug Store goes the extra mile
Manager Sam Moreno (back, center) and the staff of the Lifechek Drug store welcome customers to the “all-around store” in La Vernia.

Sam Moreno, full-time store manager and part-time band member and vocalist, welcomes residents of the surrounding community to stroll the aisles of Lifechek Drug Store in La Vernia to find more than your ordinary drug-store items.

Since its opening in 2003 by owners Bruce and Valerie Gingrich, the store has expanded its diversity of products to give its customers a full range of goods right at their back doors, all while offering the best customer service around.

The store has more than just everyday items. It offers everything from a full line of makeup and fragrances, seasonal and everyday gifts, durable medical equipment, and quick-stop groceries to guitars, musical instruments, and guitar strings. And no one knows the products with more depth than Moreno.

Moreno, a Seguin native and one of the founders of the “Clint Taft Band,” knows a lot when it comes to music. He is the sound engineer and one of the vocalists for the band. He enjoys music as much as he enjoys his loyal customers.

“I really enjoy developing those relationships with our customers, and developing that good rapport,” Moreno said.

“Our customer service is what makes us different from competitors,” Moreno said. “We will take that extra step. If we have closed and one of our customers needs something, management will deliver it on their way home.”

Lifechek is, for some, a place to relax and chat.

“It’s like an old hardware store from back in the day, where people would come in to chat,” he said.

Whether they are talking about community happenings or music, his customers are a pleasure, Moreno said.

Moreno affirms that Lifechek prices are comparable with all competitors and the store does not ask for membership fees. The pharmacy pricing matches that of Walmart, he said.

The “all-around store” also offers a photo lab. Special orders are also available. A customer can visit the store and order an item that is not in stock and it will be sent to the store the next day for the customer to collect.

Lifechek offers free delivery from Adkins to Floresville and Stockdale to Seguin.

The store reflects the services of old-time drug stores, selling anything from pharmaceutical needs to “soda pop,” Moreno said. Good customer service is key and that is just what Lifechek offers to every customer.

Lifechek is located off U.S. 87, behind Sonic and the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative in La Vernia.

The pharmacy hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pharmacy is closed on Sunday. The store hours are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Moreno and the staff invite everyone to stop by or call them at 830-779-2219.
