It’s all in how you look at it

A friend sent me this little story this week; it’s well worth sharing. In a classroom, the teacher asked, “Tommy, look out the window; do you see that tree?” Tommy replied, “Yes.” The teacher asked him to go out the door and look up at the sky. The boy did as asked. The teacher said, “Did you see the sky?” “Yes,” Tommy replied. The teacher asked, “Did you see God up there?” “No,” replied Tommy. The teacher said “Since you didn’t see him, he must not exist.”

A little girl sitting in the back of the room stood and thoughtfully looked at Tommy. “Tommy,” she asked. “Do you see the teacher?” He replied, “Yes.” “Do you see the pretty dress she has on today?” Tommy replied, “Yes.” “And Tommy,” she asked. “Do you see her lovely hairdo?” “Yes,” he replied. “Did you see her brain when you looked at her head?” “No,” Tommy said. The little girl said quite confidently, “Then it appears, according to what we’ve been told today, if you can’t see it, the teacher has no brain.”

This story was ended by a scripture, II Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” My Bible goes on to explain that sight means “appearance.” So although Christ may not be physically present, believers live by faith, according to John 20:24-29.

The important thing is to know what, or who, to place your faith in while you walk through this life. The Bible is quite clear on how to walk through our days here on earth and more clear on where we should be looking during the journey. As the pages of time turn for us, we won’t always see what lies ahead. Yet if we walk by faith, knowing that Christ is always with us, we know we can face the next page or chapter with Him by our side. And He will prove it to us time and again, until we know that we know it.

At First Baptist Church, we’re always looking forward to seeing the members and regular attenders at the worship services. We are also always looking for visitors to greet and make welcome to the People Place. We hope you will plan to visit with us on Sunday morning for the 8:10 a.m. or the 10:45 a.m. worship service. We look forward to seeing you there.

Visit www.fbc-people.com for more information about us, our scheduled activities, and special events. We have a great Vacation Bible School coming up next month with something for the entire family; it’s always great fun. We hope you’ll put that on your agenda too. Have a great week and give God the glory!
