Lady Bears now tied for first

LA VERNIA With three district games left on the schedule, as of press time, the Lady Bear volleyball team sits in a tie for first place with Somerset.

The Lady Bears were alone at the top of District 28-3A, but slipped against the Somerset Bulldogs last week, opening the door to a split district title and a playoff match to determine the No. 1 seed. Should the Bulldogs and Lady Bears each win out from here, the two will have a third match heading into the playoffs.

After dropping the match in three sets to Somerset, La Vernia came back strong during last Friday night’s match with Pleasanton. The Lady Bears picked up the win in straight sets, and should have little trouble with the remainder of their schedule.

La Vernia was scheduled to play in Poteet Oct. 16, and will be at home this Friday, Oct. 19, to face Hawkins. The Lady Bears will then close out their regular season at home Tuesday, Oct. 23, against Sam Houston.

Somerset def. La Vernia, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21.
