Standing on the promises of God

The Bible tells us in John 10:10 that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” When I read that verse, I also think of Ephesians 6:13 which says: “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

I am reminded of a young stubborn child, who wants something and nothing is going to change his or her mind. They are fully determined to not hear anything you have to say and they are not budging until they get what they want. They will even throw a fit and kick and scream to get the point across. As parents, we also stand our ground to show the child who is in command. Eventually, one or the other will give in, but the one who stands their ground without compromise is the one who wins the battle.

We all face daily situations that we think are a part of life but the truth is that many situations are not a part of life. They are an attempt by the devil to steal, kill, and destroy us. Sometimes the situation is an ongoing thing, other times they are firey darts that attack us constantly until we give in. They are attacks intended to kill us spiritually, steal our joy, and destroy us. The devil is very good at throwing situations at us so that we can give up but God has given us a weapon. If we will do what Ephesians 6:13 tells us and put on the full armor of God, we will be able to stand as the stubborn child. We need to remind ourselves that we, too, can kick and scream the word of God until the devil leaves us alone. The devil may be stubborn but remember to stand on the promises of God until you get the victory. No weapon formed against us will prosper when we stand on God’s promises.
