God is always inviting us to pray

What a privilege that we have that we can go directly to the Heavenly Father in prayer. He could close the door and leave us without His guidance, etc. but because of His vast love, He invited us to come to Him. “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost” (Isaiah 55:1). What a beautiful invitation; our loving God invited us to come to Him and promised us our daily needs. We are invited!

A lack of prayer indicates that one believes that we are self-sufficient! We want to always to go the Lord because we are NOT self-sufficient; we want our gracious and loving Lord in our lives in every way.

Again we have the scripture which says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He cares so much for us and invites us to Him.

Let’s go to the Lord in praise. Let’s sing Mary’s song of praise, “And Mary said, ‘My soul praises the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior’” (Luke 1:46). And in 1 Peter 2:9 we are told, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises to Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” “Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him” (Psalm 147:1). “Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him” (Psalm 147:1). We are invited to Him as His chosen people and we want to always go to the Lord in prayer in a state of praise.

Another manner of going to our gracious Lord is to take thanksgiving to Him. “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise give thanks to Him and praise His name (Psalm 100:4). We want to always enter into praise with thanksgiving and praise.

“Therefore I tell you, ‘whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours’” (Matthew 11:24). We are invited by our Lord and God to ask Him, He is listening. And in Luke 17:6 we have another promise, “He replied, ‘if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it will obey you.’” Wow! We are invited to bring our needs to Him and ask for His blessings and He is listening and answering.

How do you like to pray? Sometimes in solace? Do you enjoy talking with the Lord all day? Maybe taking a need to Him and thanking Him for listening? And then at another time, just spend a little time thanking Him for circumstances that just happened? I enjoy talking with Him all day; those around me don’t even know that I am praying, but a sentence here and then another sentence soon after is a wonderful way of staying in tune with Him, always thanking and praising Him.

What about joining with others in prayer? You might have a prayer group that meets together in a home and you take your praises and thanksgiving to Him as a group and then ask Him for requests that have become known to each of you. You have a time of sharing needs and blessings.

Another place of prayer that is always exciting and comforting is in a service as you pray with others that know Him as Savior and Lord and together take your needs to Him along with praises and thanksgiving.

At La Vernia United Methodist Church there is a prayer chain. Prayer needs are forwarded by email to many people and there are many, many prayers going to the Lord on behalf of the person that requested and sent their need. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, call the church office at 830-779-2621 and request your e-mail address be added to the list. There is also a need for some to call those that don’t have an email address, so maybe this is a ministry just for you as you relay the requests on to others.

Together let’s always pray; we are invited to go to Him with our praises, our thanksgiving, and our needs.

Praise His Name for the invitation to always be able to go directly to our Father in Heaven.
