Bears finish fourth in Karnes City tourney

LA VERNIA It was a period of ups and downs for the Bear varsity basketball team last week, as La Vernia fell to Floresville, and then mixed up the wins and losses in Karnes City to leave town with a fourth-place finish in tournament play.

The Bears traveled to Floresville Nov. 27 to face the Tigers, but failed to keep pace, and lost by a final score of 69-30.

With a 1-1 record, the team made a couple trips to Karnes City to play in the Badgers’ basketball tournament, and found mixed success. The Bears earned a 40-19 win over the host team, but dropped a pair of close games to San Marcos Baptist (47-44) and Stockdale (44-38).

La Vernia was scheduled to face the Poth Pirates Dec. 4, though results were unavailable as of press time.

Stockdale def. La Vernia, 44-38 (Karnes City Tourney).

Floresville def. La Vernia, 69-30.
