What a joy comes into our lives when a child is born -- whether it is your child, your grandchild, or maybe you are blessed with a niece or nephew, or maybe it is a child born to a neighbor. Children bring such joy and happiness in our lives.
This is a story that has made it around on the Internet and I want to bring it to you now.
“Whenever I’m disappointed with my spot in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. James was trying out for a part in the school play. His mother told me that he’d set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen.
“On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement, ‘Guess what, Mom?’ he shouted, and then said those words that will remain a lesson to me, ‘I’ve been chosen to clap and cheer.’”
In their innocence, they bring such joy to our lives and we will always remember some of their actions and words.
It has been a while since the massacre in Connecticut that took the lives of 20 children. As a nation, we are still saddened by the terrible loss and we hold our children a little closer now. We hug a lot more and have words of encouragement to them more often.
We want to always show our love to the children that God has placed in our lives.
At La Vernia United Methodist Church, there are many programs for the children and your child is invited!
There are Sunday School classes for all the children where the glory of God is brought to them in the manner that is so effective for the children, gearing to their age. It is a time when the teachers reach out to the children with the love of God and the message of Christ our Savior.
Most Sundays there is a children’s sermon in the early service. This is a time when the message is geared for the age of the children that come forward. It is a time of blessing and the adults attending also learn about the love of God in a precious way. We have Patsy Mehr to thank for her time and talent as she prepares the messages for the children.
We are told in Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Let’s all reach out to show Christ’s love to the children in our lives. We must pray, lead, guide, and let our message of God be a blessing to the children that God has placed in our lives. And may our precious Lord and Savior’s message of love ever fill us all, regardless of age.
