Meet 2013 Sandhill  Trail Drivers royalty, Busselman, Breiten

Mariah Busselman and Aspyn Breiten are this year’s Sandhill Trail Drivers Queen and mascot, respectively.

Mariah was born in Bee-ville, the daughter of Robbie Busselman and Kaylene Garza. She has always been a very active child by participating in numerous activities such as karate, Hermann Sons Dance, and basketball. Mariah discovered her ultimate passion of riding horses, and received her first horse on her 12th birthday. Since then, she has been participating in various trail rides and loves her horse, Boot.

Currently, Mariah lives in Gillett, with her mother and stepfather, Kaylene and Jim Garza. Mariah, 17, is a senior at Karnes City High School and is a member of the FFA. She has competed in creed speaking and livestock judging, In addition, she has assisted the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo by escorting various numbers of schools throughout the exhibits to explain the importance of agriculture. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society. After completing high school, Mariah hopes to continue her education and become a veterinarian in the local area.

Mariah is highly involved in her community and has assisted the Gillett Volunteer Fire Department by creating tickets, preparing and serving the food for the annual benefit. In addition, she has assisted with the Santa Rosa trail ride in pushing steers for the benefit roping and sponsoring a child on horseback. Mariah highly enjoys helping people.

Mariah has displayed her determination, integrity, and endurance by riding into San Antonio for the fourth time. She is highly honored and privileged to represent the Sandhill Trail Drivers as their 2012-13 Queen. She believes this opportunity will improve her public relation skills, promote good horse-manship, and enforce family cohesiveness. As Sandhill Trail Drivers Queen, she has pledged to assist her fellow riders, as needed, “Cowgirl Up,” the whole way, and demonstrate a positive attitude in every event.

Seven-year-old Aspyn Breiten, the daughter of Mi-chael and Michele Breiten, is the 2012-13 Sandhill Trail Drivers Mascot.

Aspyn is in the first grade at La Vernia Primary. Her favorite things are riding her horse, Turbo, playing with friends, singing, dancing, and reading books. She is active in gymnastics at 87 Fitness and will be playing coach pitch baseball for LVLL in the spring.

She would like to thank Trail Boss Tracie Pierdolla and all officers and members for allowing her this experience. Thank you to Queen Mariah Busselman for a fun-filled year, helping her along the way and being a great friend.
