Hello, La Vernia Citizens,
This month, I’d like to start off by saying thank you to the “Men in Mission” from the Immanuel Lutheran Church for their assistance, helping the city with removing some unsightly discard from a home in the Country Gardens subdivision. It was an issue that has gone on for over a year and it wasn’t pleasant, but it’s done, and again, thanks!
I also got a chance to work with the La Vernia Little League this past weekend, utilizing some of the funds from a generous grant given to the Little League by Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC)! Thanks to GVEC and the efforts of the Little League board, parents, and volunteers, they are working hard to improve the safety and playing conditions for the kids in our Little League! Their work benefits everyone who uses the ball fields, so please respect the practice equipment and replace it if utilized!
Spring is upon us, and our community will be very active with events starting with the 56th annual La Vernia Junior Livestock Show Thursday, Feb. 28, through Saturday, March 2. I know participants are working extremely hard on their projects in preparation for this event, so please come out and support these great kids!
The water valve installation project is scheduled for the week of March 11, and notifications will be sent to you in the mail prior to the work taking place. As mentioned before, installing these valves will allow for isolation of impacted waterlines in the event of a leak, which will alleviate the need for shutting down the entire city’s water system. There will be other projects coming soon and we will keep you posted.
Another upcoming event is our annual “Spring Cleanup,” which has been moved up to the week of March 16-24. Annually, customers can bring their non-hazardous discard to the city yard on Forrest Street. Once again, we will be notifying customers on our website, Facebook page, and by mail of the hours of operation.
I’ll end by saying “Happy Valentine’s Day” to everyone!
Robert Gregory is the mayor of La Vernia.
