La Vernia Intermediate School students and faculty have received recognition for their support of U.S. troops.

On Friday, April 1, the La Vernia Intermediate School was recognized by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The school was awarded a certificate of appreciation by VFW Ladies Auxiliary representative Elizabeth Jackson; the school also received a letter of thanks from National President Cortina Barnes.

The letter reads:

“Dear La Vernia Intermediate School,

On behalf of the 550,000 members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, I want to thank you for your efforts to support our military and their families.

As our military service men and women fight terrorism around the world, it is important for them to know that America has not forgotten them or their families. Thank you for the comfort you have brought our soldiers through your support. The youth of our country and the members of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW continue to recognize that we are United by Love for our Veterans and Country.

In this War on Terrorism, as in all wars, many have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting to bring peace and freedom to foreign lands. We ask you to remember their sacrifices and to help us ensure that all Americans understand the precious cost of freedom.

Thank you and God Bless America!”

“In November and February, we forwarded several packages of letters and cards of support to our military in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said intermediate teacher Lisa Barnes. “Every student included at least one letter or card with words of concern and love. Our students in La Vernia have a great deal of patriotism and a lot of heart. I was proud to be their sponsor in this endeavor and pleased with the unexpected recognition. Our students never miss an opportunity to participate in meaningful causes.”
