Commemorating a successful 2011 stock show

(Results from the La Vernia Junior Livestock Show are in this week's paper. Pick them up on the newsstands for this special section showcasing La Vernia's youth!)

This year’s La Vernia Junior Livestock and Poultry Show, held Feb. 24-26 at the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce, was a tremendous success, according to the show’s committee and the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce.

As the 2011 show got under way, organizers took a moment to remember the late Wilson County Pct. 3 Commissioner Bobby Lynn and Dist. 44 Rep. Edmund Kuempel. Both passed away in the months preceding this year’s show and were great supporters of the participants and the event itself.

This year’s auction brought in proceeds of $8,485 including add-ons for 32 items. This is an increase over the 2010 proceeds of $7,055 including add-ons for the same number of items. The show featured a total of 480 entries, ranging from market steers to breeding livestock and crafts to baked goods.
