Relay For Life is May 4!

Why do you relay? That question can stir up an array of different emotions for anyone who has ever participated in a Relay For Life event. Is it in memory of a loved one? Could it be to honor someone? Or is it simply to be part of something meaningful and rewarding? What say you find out at this year’s Relay For Life of Wilson County on Saturday, May 4, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. at Eschenburg Field at Floresville High School.

To date, there are 45 teams, including 483 participants who have raised $35,526. Last year’s event raised $108,547, and with this year’s monetary goal of $115,000, there is still work to be done.

Relay For Life is an organized, overnight community fund-raising walk where teams of friends and families camp out around a track and take turns walking laps around the track. A variety of food, games, and all-night activities, such as a survivor lap to kick things off, a crazy hat lap, tug-of-war, a pajama lap, a luminaria ceremony, and more, will be available.

This year’s event will be dedicated in the memory of Luke Pollok, formerly of Poth. It will also honor two survivor honorees, Judy Childress of Stockdale and Daisy Perez of Floresville.
