The La Vernia Municipal Development District has partnered with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism, regional allies, and economic development agencies to host a Governor’s Small Business Forum: Opportunities of the Eagle Ford Shale on Thursday, June 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the La Vernia High School Auditorium at 221 F.M. 775 in La Vernia. The event brings critical information to small business owners at a time when it is most needed.
A dynamic lineup of speakers will explore the economic impact of the Eagle Ford Shale and the opportunities it continues to create for businesses and veterans in South Texas. The event features distinguished speakers John Steen, Texas’ 108th Secretary of State, Hope Andrade, the commissioner representing employers for the Texas Workforce Commission, Dr. Tom Tunstall, director of research, Institute for Economic Development University of Texas at San Antonio, and Dr. Ray Perryman, CEO of the Perryman Group, an economic research and analysis firm based in Waco.
In addition to public officials, the audience will hear presentations from industry experts on doing business with the oil and gas industry, the Texas Veterans Leadership Program, and Access to Capital.
The Governor’s Small Business Forums are designed to educate the small business community on workforce development, employee skills training, and growth opportunities. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will present information on employee training, grants, and other programs available through TWC. Veterans, business owners, prospective entrepreneurs, community leaders, and elected officials are encouraged to attend.
