Grand jury slaps former insurance agent with three charges

LA VERNIA -- Former Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Treasurer Patsy Ritchey has been arrested by the Texas Rangers after the Wilson County Grand Jury July 12 handed down two separate indictments. This is according to Wilson County District Clerk Deborah Bryan July 16.

According to a copy of the first indictment, which was released by Bryan’s office, Ritchey is charged with theft of property worth more than $20,000 but less than $100,000 and with misapplication of fiduciary property. It alleges that Ritchey, over a three-year span, took a total of $89,386.29 that belonged to the greater chamber and deposited it into an account for her business, the Patsy Ritchey Insurance Agency. The agency, up until April 18, was affiliated with Farmers Insurance.

The second indictment charges Ritchey with theft of property worth more than $1,500 but less than $20,000. It relates to an alleged theft from Phenix Architectural Woodwork Corp. that occurred on or about Dec. 7, 2010.

According to the indictments, Ritchey is being held on a total bond of $27,500.
