LA VERNIA Trooper Corey Holmes of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol continues his investigation into a two-vehicle crash July 22, which briefly shut down U.S. 87 north of here and sent three to area hospitals.

At approximately 12:17 p.m., a 2013 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Keith Carroll Dill of Weatherford was traveling northbound on U.S. 87 when he came upon a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by 52-year-old Kathleen Markgraf of La Vernia. Holmes said Markgraf’s northbound vehicle was stopped in the left lane, as she attempted to make a left turn onto C.R. 361. Dill tried to avoid striking the Camry and swerved abruptly, Holmes said. This caused the pickup truck to roll over and strike the rear of Markgraf’s vehicle.

An AirLife helicopter flew Dill to University Hospital in San Antonio, while the La Vernia Emergency Medical Services transported Markgraf and a 10-month-old girl identified by Holmes as Lily Markgraf ...to the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville. Spokesmen at the hospitals confirmed that all three were treated and released.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, the La Vernia Police Department, and fire departments from La Vernia and Stockdale also responded to the scene.
