SS Water implements Stage II restrictions

SS Water implements Stage II restrictions
Signs in the La Vernia area advise SS Water Supply Corp. members that Stage II restrictions are mandatory.

On Aug. 1, SS Water Supply Corporation implemented Stage II watering restrictions for its entire service area. “During the recent hot-dry spell, voluntary restrictions were not accomplishing the desired results,” said General Manager Herb Williams. “The system has built a tremendous amount of capacity into tank storage and the distribution system that is over and above the regulatory requirements for the number of connections on our system. Even with all this capacity the combination of the heat, no rain, and members trying to maintain a healthy green space, our supply levels were nearing critical levels during the recent weeks.”

Most recently, storage tanks were not able to recover as demand cycles continued to grow and recovery cycles were severely shortened. With a recommendation from Williams, the board president of SS Water Supply Corp. implemented the mandatory stage II water restrictions.

The restrictions are as follows:

¢Irrigation of landscape areas with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems shall be limited to Sundays and Thursdays for customers with a mailing address ending in an even number; and Saturdays and Wednesdays for water customers with a mailing address ending in an odd number. Irrigation of landscaped areas is prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on all seven days of the week. However, irrigation of landscaped areas is permitted at any time if it is by a hand-held hose.

¢Washing of motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle is prohibited except on designate watering days. This washing shall be done with a bucket and hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle for quick rinses.

The following uses of water are defined ads nonessential and are prohibited:

¢Washing down of any sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas;

¢Washing down buildings or structures for purposes other than immediate fire protection.

Violations and penalties

¢First violation: The customer/member will be given written notice of their specific violation and their need to comply with the tariff rules. The notice will include a list of penalties to be assessed for continued violations.

¢Second violation: The member/customer will be assessed a $50 penalty.

¢Third violation: The member/customer will be assessed a $75 penalty.
