Judge reschedules Ritchey’s arraignment

The arraignment of 54-year-old Patsy Lynne Ritchey, the former treasurer of the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce, has been rescheduled to Aug. 27, according to 218th District Court Judge Stella Saxon Aug. 6.

Ritchey is charged with theft of property worth more than $20,000 but less than $100,000, misapplication of fiduciary property, and theft of property worth more than $1,500 but less than $20,000, all related to her tenure as the treasurer of the organization. Saxon did not elaborate on why the arraignment had to be rescheduled.

State and local officials continue their insurance fraud investigation into Ritchey, who was the owner of the now-closed Patsy Ritchey Insurance Agency on U.S. 87 in La Vernia. Nicole Thornbro of the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Aug. 2 that Investigator Gordon Bake of the Texas Department of Insurance continues to interview alleged victims and collect statements. He continues to receive calls from people claiming that Ritchey defrauded them, Thornbro said.

Bexar County officials likely will refer the insurance fraud case for prosecution in Wilson County, Thornbro said, since most of the complaints have originated there. Because the investigation remains active, she declined to specify how many victims have come forward or how much money Ritchey allegedly stole from her insurance clients.

“It’s high,” Thornbro said. “We’re definitely in the felony amounts.”

Officials still urge anyone who might have fallen victim to Ritchey to call Bake at 210-335-2404.
