God is faithful

The Bible says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” It seems pretty simple. If you need something, pray, seek the Lord, and your prayer shall be answered. We would think that we can have an instant answer to our prayers but sometimes it takes a while. That does not mean that God’s word is not true. If we pray according to God’s will our prayer is certainly on its way.

A young child about to enter school started losing his front teeth. The first two teeth needed some assistance. The third came right off. When another tooth became loose, the child started praying and asking God that the fourth tooth would come off by itself just as the third one. It didn’t happen right then and there. In fact it took a few days but he kept praying and he just knew that God was going to make it happen. As he continued to pray nightly he began to wonder and asked his mother if God knew which tooth he was praying about. Mom reassured him that God knew and not to worry. One night after praying, as he lay in bed waiting to fall asleep, he touched his tooth with his tongue and the tooth came right off. God had answered his prayer and it was the right tooth!

God hears all of our prayers and answers them immediately but sometimes it takes a while for us to receive it. Daniel 10:12-13 says: “ é Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me é ” Sometimes it is not God’s timing or the devil doesn’t want us to have the answer. A lot of things happen from the time that we pray until the time the answer is received. If we don’t get an immediate answer, we start begging and thinking God did not hear us or maybe we didn’t pray the right prayer or were not specific enough. We worry about little details and forget that the waiting period is a time to rest in the Lord, a time to have faith and wait for the answer.

The Bible tells us about one of Daniels’ prayers. One of his prayers took three weeks because the devil intercepted the answer. He did not want Daniels’ prayer answered. What did Daniel do? He kept right on praying, believing and waiting for an answer for three whole weeks! It wasn’t his patience that carried him through, it was his trust in God. He knew that God was faithful and would not fail him. He knew that his prayer had been heard and the answer was on its way.

When we have Jesus in our heart, we know that we are God’s favorite children and that He will listen to us and supply all of our needs. Just as we expect Him to hear and answer our prayers, He expects us to have faith and trust Him. Isaiah 55: 10 is a promise from God telling us that as the rain and the snow come down from heaven so is the Word of God. It does not return void.
