The San Antonio Symphonic Band (SASB), along with students from the La Vernia High School Band, will perform “A Salute to America” on Saturday, May 28, at 7 p.m. in the La Vernia City Park to honor the bravery and sacrifice of America’s servicemen and -women.
Together the bands will perform tunes such as “God Bless America,” “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “E Pluribus Unum,” “The Invincible Eagle,” a Salute to Bob Hope, and ending with “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The concert is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to take lawn chairs and a picnic basket and enjoy a Saturday evening of patriotic music in the park. In addition, the La Vernia Cub Scout Pack 22 will conduct a flag ceremony.
The San Antonio Symphonic Band, “All America City Band,” was designated by the San Antonio City Council as the official band of the Alamo City on Sept. 4, 1986. The band consists of all volunteer musicians, representing a wide variety of professions.
