Words of life

Life has its ups and downs. I don’t think there is a single person who can say that they are on top of the world and their life doesn’t have any valleys. In reality, life is like a roller coaster but the outcome is up to how we choose to handle the situation. For people who do not know God, life is very hard, but there is hope for all humanity if we would go to God’s Word. Proverbs 4:20-22 says: “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart, for they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

There is an answer to everything in God’s Word. I remember feeling helpless as I went through some situations until I turned to God’s Word. I opened the Bible and started reading. I was looking for hope. God must have led me to that scripture because it seemed like God knew what I was going through. He showed me the way, gave me hope, and lifted me out of the valley of depression. That would not have happened had I not inclined my ear to God’s Word. Sometimes that is hard to do. We try to figure things out and look in all the wrong places.

God says to incline our ear and not to let His Word depart from our eyes. Why does He mention the eyes and the ears? We must use our eyes to read and our ears to hear God’s Word! How else are we going to put His Word in our heart? If we keep His Word in our heart, we will know what to do when we have a situation and we will be reminded that God has the answer.

In this verse, God tells us that it is life and health to those that find them but we have to read God’s Word. I remember a while back and nothing seemed to help, so I turned to God’s Word and read Isaiah 53. My eyes focused on verse 5 when I came to it. It says: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Something happened in my heart when I read this. Peace came over me and I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was completely healed. All the pain and the symptoms were gone! God’s Word is life! Praise God.

Psalm 119:105 says: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” If we will seek God first through His Word and by praying, He will lead us and light the path that leads to life, health, and happiness in Christ Jesus.
