Texas State Senior Games

The 2015 Texas State Senior Games will be held April 9-19 in San Antonio. The Games are a community-wide effort, as they are hosted in venues throughout San Antonio, from one corner to another. Our sponsors and community partners represent locally owned businesses, major corporations, and organizations that serve seniors in our community. For an event like this, it truly takes a village. Registration is ongoing for this year's Games. Early Bird Registration ($35 + event fees) ends February 27. After this date, registration will be $40 + event fees. ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY TUESDAY, MARCH 17. Paper registration forms are available upon request and at venues around San Antonio. To request a paper form, email us your address. All paper registration forms will incur an additional $10 processing fee. Over the course of the Games, more than 2,000 athletes representing Texas and other states will compete in more than 25 competitive and recreational sporting events. These events include Billiards, Scrabble, Archery, Basketball, Tennis, Golf, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, and more. Medals are awarded to first, second, and third place finalists at the end of each event.

Tracking the Wild Invaders - as a field botanist, Minnette Marr of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has surveyed plant communities on private ranches, and in state forests and national parks throughout Texas. Land managers use these surveys for many purposes, including the control of invasive species. Tonight Minnette will teach us how to get involved in mapping and eradicating invasive species in our own neighborhoods. Monarch Butterfly Monitoring Workshop

Learn all about monarch butterflies at this training session and workshop for the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm monarch larval monitoring project. Master Naturalists Kip Kiphart & Kathy Downs will host the training session on monarch biology and life cycles, milkweed ecology, monarch migration and citizen science projects at the Cibolo to monitor monarchs. This training is approved for credit for Master Naturalists. Moondance Concert: 1 Minute to Midnight

7:30 pm - 10:30 pm / 140 City Park Rd., Boerne, TX 78006

One Minute to Minute brings jazz, contemporary rock, Motown and Big Band swing music to the Moondance Concert series at the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm in Boerne, Texas. Kids under 12 are free at this family-friendly concert at the nonprofit nature center’s outdoor stage. Bring your own lawn chairs, or spread out a blanket under the moonlight. The Little Texas Kitchen food truck will be on site. The gates open at 7:30 p.m. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. Get your tickets at the door or in advance at the nature center on weekdays. The concert benefits the nature center’s education programs and outreach.
