Texas Ranger Cross dedication

In commemoration of the service rendered and the sacrifices made by Robert Hall, the Former Texas Rangers Association has given a special grave marker. The Texas Rangers Memorial Cross will be placed on Hall’s grave by his descendants in the King Cemetery between Belmont and Gonzales on Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m. Members of the public are welcome. The cemetery is located on U.S. 90 Alternate, approximately 6 miles east of Belmont. With the help of local historical societies and Ranger descendants, the Texas Ranger Memorial Cross program researches, identifies, and documents the burial sites of Texas Rangers statewide and places a memorial cross at the resting place of each honored Ranger. The cross is furnished to members of the Former Texas Rangers Association at no cost; the program is funded in part by a grant from the Texas Historical Foundation, the Henderson family, Dale Williamson, and others. 37th Annual Bluebonnet Fest

The Bluebonnet Fest is one of La Vernia and Wilson County’s most anticipated festival events. Each year the La Vernia Lions Club sponsors the event starting with the Miss La Vernia Scholarship Pageant and ending with the Festival held at the City Park. The Beaver Roundup is held every year on the first Saturday in August for graduates, former students, current and former administrators and staff, and friends of Falls City High School. The event will begin with registration and visiting, followed with a barbeque/sausage dinner, a program to introduce the honor classes, and a dance that lasts until 11:30 pm. The classes of 1950, 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, & 2000 will be honored this year. Admission is $15 per person. Flying Wild Workshop

How wild birds can become a teaching tool to connect kids with nature and science is the focus of a Flying Wild workshop for classroom and community educators 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at Cibolo Nature Center & Farm. Registration begins May 15. A comprehensive Educator’s Guide to Celebrating Birds is included with the one-day course. It includes lesson plans for learners in grades 3 to 12, but the guide also includes suggestions for scaling activities up or down for younger or older learners. All educators are invited, from kids’ clubs instructors, after-school program leaders and scout leaders to Sunday School class teachers, homeschooling organizations and public or private classroom teachers. Eligible classroom teachers can earn six hours of Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits by completing the $30 course.
