Logan Saenz barbecue benefit

The La Vernia Angels are planning a barbecue fund-raiser for Logan Saenz Sunday, July 26, at the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce. Logan, a student in the La Vernia Independent School District, is currently battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Each plate will include barbecued chicken and sausage, homemade mashed potatoes, green beans, and corn for $10. A drive-thru service will start at 10:30 a.m. and will remain open until all plates are gone. All proceeds will go toward Logan’s medical expenses. 22nd Annual Beaver Roundup

4 pm / Falls City Community Hall

The Beaver Roundup is held every year on the first Saturday in August for graduates, former students, current and former administrators and staff, and friends of Falls City High School. The event will begin with registration and visiting, followed with a barbeque/sausage dinner, a program to introduce the honor classes, and a dance that lasts until 11:30 pm. The classes of 1950, 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, & 2000 will be honored this year. Admission is $15 per person. Flying Wild Workshop

How wild birds can become a teaching tool to connect kids with nature and science is the focus of a Flying Wild workshop for classroom and community educators 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at Cibolo Nature Center & Farm. Registration begins May 15. A comprehensive Educator’s Guide to Celebrating Birds is included with the one-day course. It includes lesson plans for learners in grades 3 to 12, but the guide also includes suggestions for scaling activities up or down for younger or older learners. All educators are invited, from kids’ clubs instructors, after-school program leaders and scout leaders to Sunday School class teachers, homeschooling organizations and public or private classroom teachers. Eligible classroom teachers can earn six hours of Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits by completing the $30 course.
