6/6: This is Daisey Mae. She is part Border Collie, part full Collie. Daisey is the perfect farm dog who loves herding the cattle, even when they don’t need herding. Daisey is always ready to play with the soccer ball or the chickens.

5/30: “Amarillo is a stray who showed up, bleeding from a leg injury, in our neighborhood three years ago. After no one responded to our “found dog” ads and flyers, she has become a member of our family, always eager to “help”. In this picture, she is holding the coffee can we use to scoop horse feed.” Amarillo belongs to Caren Ramon.

5/22: Shelby McLeod shares her pet, Roscoe. “He is a mini Dachshund, although he is closer to the standard size! This photo was taken after he floated with me out in our pool, and I guess it wore him out. Roscoe honestly believes he is human and as you can see he even sleeps like a human!”

5/15: Ranger and Emmy are out for a stroll in the wildflowers. They belong to Carol Brietzke of Adkins.

5/8: This is Karissa Ryan and her dogs Spunkie and Bebe. Spunkie lets her take her nap on her back.They both love her so much. Spunkie is now in heaven and will be missed so much.

5/1: Meet “Pretty Boy” a Partridge Plymouth Rock rooster that belongs to Genesis Vann. Pretty Boy is always up early!

4/24: “This is Dalton’s dog Clyde. While I was visiting beautiful La Vernia in the month of March, Clyde and I walked every day to pick up the kids at daycare. Clyde loves his family and is so happy whenever any one of them come home to play with him. He sleeps every night with his owner and I know the joy he gives his family.” Submitted by Grandma “MIMI.”

4/17: “Our dog, Tebow, was found by my husband on FM 775. We were able to contact the owner and the owner asked if we would keep him. Gladly, we did. Our 7-year-old daughter, Rainey is his “human”. He loves her beyond measure. We believe he is a Catahoula and he has white-blue eyes. He smiles showing both his upper and lower teeth when he is happy! It’s hilarious. We love him a bunch!!!” says Niki S. Jackson.

4/11: Meet Rascal and Silver. These fine felines belong to Kevin and Amanda Mosel. Rascal is 4 years old and is very rambunctious. He is a typical cat, not very loving toward strangers and is very protective of Silver. Silver is one year old and his story is special. The Mosels took in Silver as a foster last March. He was abused and ADL had to remove his left hind leg when he was 7 weeks old. The family took him home when he was 8 weeks old and at 12 weeks when his recovery was over, they adopted him. Losing his hind leg hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He runs and jumps like any other cat. He is very affectionate and wants lots of loving.

4/3: Marci Prater shares her pooch, Diesel. “This is our boy! Fifty pounds of pure sweetness and he’s only 5 months old!!!”

3/27: Nickey, the toy Fox Terrier, checks out the bluebonnets! The bluebonnet seeds are from the package of seeds they won from the La Vernia News WOW! photo contest gift basket. Nickey belongs to Norbert and Mary Lee Brietzke.

3/20: Here is a picture of our Chihuahua “Paco.” He is owned by Laura Schwenn. The question is: is he at the dentist or having his GRRR face on? Actually, he is yawning, ready for the next nap.

3/13: Hailey Elizabeth Alycia, five years old, with her miniature Doberman Pincher/Chihuahua at her grandma Debbie Trongo’s home in La Vernia.

3/6: Stephanie Harper says, “Kitty was a stray who wandered into our garage in Legacy Ranch this past summer. From the beginning she and our Dachshund have been best buddies!”

2/27: Toby is a toy Chihuahua. He is eight years old and is a very unusual silver latté color. His favorite treats are Iams tiny bone-shaped cookies.

2/20: Little Nor, 3-years-old, belongs to Hannah Simmons. He loves when his family is all around him at home.

2/15: Lady is a five-year-old Lab owned by Kim Gorden and Garrett Carver from La Vernia.

2/6: Missy is a Malti-Poo and belongs to Charlene and J. Earl Bridges of Bridges Rifle Company.

1/31: Chowder and Suki, both Shih Tzu puppies, are 6-month-old Lila’s protectors and never let her out of their sight.

1/24: Nigerian dwarf and pygmy goat babies Daisy, Luke, and Bo frolic on the Whiskey Creek Ranch.

1/16: Dazzle is the unofficial Anytime Fitness mascot, pictured here with the La Vernia cheerleaders. She comes to the gym to visit from time to time.

1/9: “Chuck” Bandit, a beagle, loves catching the scent of the rabbits in the pasture and chasing them all evening. His favorite activity is begging his mom, Jill, to go on walks down the dirt road.

1/2: Dude is a Chiweenie, he loves waiting for the school bus for his boys to come home.

12/26: Annie is a Lhasa Apso-Terrier mix who belongs to Sarah Lange. Annie is 6 years old. She was adopted from the Animal Defense League in San Antonio when she was a puppy. Her favorite treats are Milk-Bones. Her cutest trick: She does the G.I.Joe (belly crawl) in the morning to greet Sarah’s mom. When Sarah’s mom, Phyllis, asks Annie if she wants to go, outside and Annie does not want to go she immediately sits down to answer NO. She is very protective of Sarah.

12/20: Piper the Chihuahua belongs to Jerry and Linda Gonzales of La Vernia. Piper is four years old.

12/13: Tutti is 1 year old. She is a Malti-Tzu (Half Maltese and half Shih Tzu). She weighs about 10 pounds and belongs to Grace Cox (holding her).

12/5: Jasper belongs to Linda Grohman. He is a double yellow headed Amazon parrot. Linda has had him since he was a baby and his is now 21 years old.

11/28: Bentley is an 8-month-old Great Dane. He weighs at least 100 pounds. He belongs to Emily Wortham and Zack Preston.

11/21: Bailey is a Boxer (15 weeks old) and belongs to Braden and Conner Kaitner. She is full of energy and loves to play. She pretty much rules the household!

11/14: Scout the Jack Russell terrier is 11 weeks old. He loves playing with his two big brothers, Bandit and Angus.

11/7: Angus T-Bone, a 2-year-old teacup Chihuahua, loves riding with dad down the back roads in the evenings.

6/20: Picaso is a 4-month-old “teacup” Chihuahua and weighs 1.5 pounds. He belongs to Kendra Zdansky of La Vernia.

6/13: Penny is a Basenji and Chihuahua mix. She belongs to Susanne Varner.

5/31: Ella Bella is the Zigmond’s sweet Maltipoo.

5/10: Kallee is a one-year and one-month-old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese). She loves to play with her Rottweiler sister, Casey. They love to play tug-of-war with their rope toys but Casey always wins unless Kallee wants a free ride. Kallee has such a beautiful personality and she loves to please and give lots of kisses. Kallee belongs to Tony and Rhonda Gann of La Vernia.

5/3: Junior is a 4-1/2-year-old Albino Australian Sheperd. He is sensitive to light and has very little sight. He is very smart. Junior belongs to Pauline Young.

4/25: Abbey is a 12-year-old English Mastiff owned by Andrea Eden. Jared Eden, 11 years old, relaxes with Abbey at the La Vernia City Park Little League field. Abbey loves to play tug of war (she wins every time) and enjoys laying in the pond to cool off.

4/18: Macy just celebrated her first birthday and belongs to The Bachman family in La Vernia. Macy is a big ham — and likes to get her picture taken. Macy loves to play with the kids and to be on the water at the river or the lake.

4/11: Jerry is a one-year-old Shepard mix. He was adopted by the Smith family. His hobbies include hunting gophers and lounging in the shade.

4/4: George and Ernie belong to Kathryn and Gary Smith. Kathryn owns Clip’N Tails Pet Salon in La Vernia.

3/28: Debra and Jackie of Sutherland Springs are the proud new owners of two mini donkeys named Bud and Eeyore. Bud loves his food and will follow the grandkids around wherever they go. Eeyore is a little shy and getting used to his new home.

3/22: Parker is a three-year-old Yorkie. He belongs to Becky, JJ, and Morgan of La Vernia. His pal, Morgan, is in fifth grade at La Vernia Intermediate School. He is a little dog with a big attitude! He loves to steal anything he can manage to run away with and stashes the items under the bed.

3/14: Maggie, the Basset Hound, was rescued by Marci Prater a few months ago. She is quite the character and she believes that she’s quite scary with her ginormous bark! Her favorite pastime is pestering the horses and trying to sneak into the house for treats.

3/8: “Little Ms. Coco, a black Pug, came to be the queen of our castle Christmas of 2010 at just 4 weeks old. She loves to pack around her huge stuffed purple bunny, always ready to chase her ball and loves to eat fruit! Her favorites are oranges & apples.” CoCo belongs to Marci Prater.

2/23: Sissy is an 18 month old Jack Russell Terrier - Pug blend. She was rescued at 3 months old and has been living with the Brewton-Fuller family of La Vernia as a foster ever since. She is a sweet, 15 pound, spayed female with a prissy dog attitude. Sissy recently attended opening day ceremonies for Barker’s Pet Ranch and had a wonderful time meeting all the dogs and visitors! She gets along with dogs, cats and most importantly — KIDS!!! Sissy has been microchipped and is available for adoption through www.dogsrus.org.

2/16: Rocky is a seven-year-old chihuahua. He is one of five dogs owned by Lee and Andrew Peterson. Rocky likes to play with and chase his dog friends. He also enjoys watching TV with his owners!

2/9: This is Honey. She belongs to Skylar Roath. She enjoys sleeping, chasing cats, and playing with her friends Cocoa, Lady Bug, and her new brother, Holmes. She also does tricks such as sitting, lying down, shaking hands, picking up her right and left paw, rolling over, begging (seen in photo), fetching, and jumping through things. She has won ribbons at the 4-H dog show and she hopes to win more in the future.

2/2: This is Killerman. Killer was already special enough, but just before Christmas, he became lost. Two days later our angel, Stacey Lewallen, found our “man” and we were able to bring him home. He is our seven-year-old black lab and has been a La Vernia resident with his family for three months.

1/26: Abbygail is a three-year-old female Chihuahua who was abandoned. She belongs to Rev. Mark Pendergraft. She loves walking and playing with her buddy, Rusty. Rusty is a one-year-old male Chihuahua and was adopted from a loving home because his owner was unable to take care of Rusty because of illness. Rusty loves to walk and play with Abbygail and both love being with me.

1/19: This is Pinky, our poodle. She belongs to Joan and Bobby Rakowitz of La Vernia. Pinky’s favorite thing to do is bark — a lot. She is absolutely the best entertainment ever! She is a well-traveled dog and has been on a plane 3 times to 3 different states. She enjoys human food, sitting on her mamma’s lap, and going to the park. Put her in your purse and she will shop forever! We love her so much!

1/13: Here is Marshmellow. He is a Chihuahua mix. He is 2 years old and was adopted a year ago by Lee and Andrew Peterson. He loves riding in the car, walking in the water when it’s hot, and playing with his 4 dog friends.

1/6: Indy is the 14-year-old Rat Terrier of Leah Lassiter’s family.
He is happy, energetic, and affectionate and makes a
loyal, loving member of the Lassiter family. He is protective
and also loves to run and play fetch. He joins the family on
family vacations and he loves to swim. His favorite place is
to be curled up on a pillow. Indy is pictured on one of the
family vacations in Port Aransas last July.

12/29: Daylan McReynold’s wish came true! He asked Santa for a new puppy. Dixie, an 8-week-old beagle, arrived all the way from Missouri to make his Christmas extra special.

12/22: Gordon is about 3-1/2 years old and belongs to Bain Serna. Bain got him while in Mahmudiyah, Iraq when the starving kitten wandered up to Bain’s platoon. Gordon was soon adopted and with the help of Operation Baghdad Pups, Bain was able to have Gordon sent home to the U.S. Gordon currently lives with Bain’s mom on a horse ranch in rural Seguin.

12/14: This is Dylan, a Pit Bull. Dylan belongs to Emily Streetman. “Most people cringe when they hear the words “pit bull” but the most harm this dog has ever done is hit me with his tail while it’s wagging or almost licking me to death. He smiles at me everyday when I come home from work and literally crawls in my lap if it’s thundering outside. His breed may have the worst reputation in the dog world but around here he cuddles with my cat and miniature Dachshund.”

12/8: Kitty Girl is the beloved one-year-old cat of Michelle Lewis and her family. They got her from a rescue located in Adkins. She enjoys laying under the family’s Christmas tree. She also has her own stocking hung because she is waiting for Santa, too.
