A ‘sign’ of love and affection

We started out in passionate love,
Absolutely sure it was all from above.
Each day was soon years that rolled by so fast.
Now it just seems, she says I am always riding her … last nerve.
There were times long ago we worked as a team,
But through the years now, she just always seems steamed.
My return from a war brought some lingering effect.
’Twasn’t easy on either of us, but she didn’t break my neck.
Her “change o’ life” left her to where I hide when she’s hit with a flare,
And it just goes to show God’s strength because our marriage is still there!
At Christmas, she gets all cheerful and decorates by  demand;
I’m to be at her every whim and command.
But this year, I’m recovering from back surgery’s demise,
You can see her sweet love by that glare in her eyes!
She says it’s my fault for “overdoing it” throughout my whole life.
She rebukes me because she says it’s her right as my wife.
When a hot flash hits or a chill with the sweat,
Getting outta her way is a sure self-preservation bet!
So, imagine today, with her desire for Christmas decor,
Not a sound I should make anywhere on a floor.
But I entered her presence with fear and an understanding mood,
With a sign on my forehead that reads, “I am so sorry” to avoid any feud!
But honestly, folks, it’s a staged humorous pose,
And that’s what she said for me to say if I wanted washed clothes!
