A dedication will take place May 22 in the Concrete Cemetery near La Vernia, where a Texas Ranger Memorial Cross will be placed on the grave of Claiborne Rector, considered an “Early Ranger” for his participation in the Battle of San Jacinto. Members of the public are invited.

The Former Texas Ranger Association will honor Claiborne Rector (1805-1873) with the Texas Ranger Memorial Cross in a ceremony on Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. in the Concrete Cemetery near La Vernia.

Claiborne is considered an “Early Ranger” of Texas and is eligible for the Memorial Cross due to his participation in the Battle of San Jacinto.

Local historian Allen Kosub, a member of the Wilson County Historical Society and La Vernia Historical Association, will be on hand at the dedication to share more information on Claiborne Rector and his contributions to our state and community.

With the help of local historical societies and Ranger descendants, the Texas Ranger Memorial Cross program identifies and documents the burial sites of Texas Rangers statewide and places the Memorial Cross at the resting place of each honored Ranger.

For more information on the Memorial Cross program, contact Wilson County Historical Society member Pat Jackson at 210-413-5764, or Concrete Cemetery historian Shirley Grammer at 830-947-3176.
