Jacob Leroy Tafolla Sr.


1948-2020

Jacob Leroy Tafolla Sr. passed away in his home in La Vernia, Texas, on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020. He was more often referred to as “Leroy” by his family and many childhood friends. Jacob was born Dec. 4, 1948, in Uvalde to Judge Robert “Bobby” and Concepción “Connie” Venegas Tafolla.

Leroy was raised in Uvalde. After graduating from Uvalde High School in 1968, he moved throughout Texas to Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio to work for different companies. Some of his most memorable jobs were as a mortician and an insurance agent. In 1973, Leroy ventured into his own businesses, which included transporting and selling imports, and designing/building fences and custom pools. His incredible talent and vision were amazing and showed in his work and craftsmanship, said his family. During his self-employment years, he lived in San Antonio, Atlanta, Ga., Mexico, and finally his favorite piece of earth, La Vernia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandchildren, Caralinda Treviño, Ste-phen Jonathon Garces Jr., Miles Rai Tafolla, and Clarita “Clara” Mariah Aguero; and three great-grandbaby angels.

Leroy is survived by his son, Jacob “Jake” L. Tafolla Jr. and wife Tina; his daughters, Jeannette Garces Tafolla and fiancé Charles Kirk Hutcherson and Joyce Lynn Tafolla and fiancé JC Jara; his grandchildren, Savanna Dibrell, Connie Aguerro, Ronnie Aguerro, Edward J. Trevino Jr., and Joshua T. Trevino; six great-grandchildren; and his sib-lings, Marion “David” Tafolla and wife Sandra, Bobby Tafolla Jr., and Rose Mary Tafolla.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Alamo Funeral Home in San Antonio.

An additional visitation will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in La Divina Trinidad United Methodist Church in Uvalde.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the church.

Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde.

Serving as pallbearers will be Pedro “Cuate” Reyes, Robert B. Tafolla II, Edward J. Trevino Jr., Joshua T. Trevino, Ronnie Aguero, and Shilo Rai Barron.

Serving as honorary pallbearer will be his son, Jacob Leroy Tafolla Jr.
