‘Take a bite out of crime’ Oct. 2 in city park

Hello, La Vernia citizens!

Fall is right around the corner and the La Vernia Police Department is hard at work preparing for National Night Out, which will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the city park. La Vernia has been recognized nationally for the last several years as one of the most successful and well-attended National Night Out programs in the country for cities of our size. If you can’t make it to the park, I hope that you get with your neighbors and have your own block party, as this night is for community building, bringing members of the public together with our law-enforcement officers so that we can work together to “take a bite out of crime”! Getting to know your neighbors and watching out for each other is a fundamental first step in crime prevention on the streets where we live!

At City Hall, the budget has been the topic for the last two months and this Thursday, the La Vernia City Council will vote on the 2018-19 budget. Just prior to the meeting, there will be a public hearing; if you have questions or concerns, please come and speak on any issue regarding our fiscal year budget.

Looking at the calendar, December will be here before you know it and our annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, so save that date! As in years past, there will be a train, snow slide, and yes, Santa will pay us a visit! Bring the kids and enjoy a great night in the park.

Please get out and support your La Vernia Bears and Lady Bears as tennis, cross country, volleyball, and football are in full swing. All are off to a great start to their respective seasons! Go, Bears!

Till next time, God bless!
