Welcome, State debate teams!Free Access

The population of La Vernia will swell considerably this week, as the city hosts not only the annual La Vernia Livestock & Poultry Show, but the Texas Forensic Association’s State debate contest!

We welcome the more than 2,000 students representing more than 200 schools filling the halls of campuses in La Vernia as teams from across Texas — including La Vernia’s own (see page 12) — participate in a variety of events, from extemporaneous speech to dramatic interpretation and Lincoln-Douglas debate to Student Congress. The contest runs Thursday through Saturday, March 1-3.

Food trucks at La Vernia High School will cater to contest participants, and also will welcome community members.

Be prepared for limited parking throughout the city for the next few days, and expect some waiting times at restaurants and businesses.

Monetary donations to help offset the costs of hosting this prestigious event are most welcome, as are items and giveaways for “swag bags” for participants, coaches, and others.

For information or to donate or contribute, email noah.recker@lvisd.org.

Welcome, State TFA competitors! Good luck!
